Inching to Perfection

We attract what we are.. we attract more of what we already are..

In every relationship, I look for where the person was damaged

As if that might explain everything about them.

In each conversation, I try to look for the implicit context,

As if that might exactly be what they want to say but can’t.

Every time they hold me close, I think “does this matter to me?”

As if the answer to that will be my salvation from the mess.

But I believed in fairy tales once.

Once I did.

No not the knight in shining armour.

But the happily ever after.

But time

Pain

Love

Loss

And life

Have taught me that

Happily ever after, is a work in progress.

It will never be finished.

It will only inch to completion.

In its own sweet time.
